Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
Involves repetitive intrusive, distressing thoughts, impulses or images which the individual recognizes as irrational and tries to manage by suppressing them or neutralizing them with some other thought or action. Compulsions are repetitive behaviors often used to try to reduce and manage the anxiety related to obsessions (e.g., compulsive hand washing to try to cope with fearful thoughts of contamination in the environment or religious, sexual).
