Panic disorder

With panic disorder, the individual experiences recurrent, unexpected panic attacks for a period of a month or more, often associated with the fear of having further attacks. A panic attack is a discrete period of intense fear or discomfort, in which more than four of the following symptoms that develop abruptly and peak within 10 min:

  • Palpitations, pounding heart
  • Sweating
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Feeling dizzy, unsteady, light-headed, or faint
  • Numbness or tingling sensations
  • Derealization or depersonalization
  • Fear of dying
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Sensations of choking
  • Nausea or abdominal pain
  • Chills or hot flushes
  • Fear of losing control or going crazy
